APPLIED COLOUR PSYCHOLOGYApplied colour psychology is about the application of colour to influence emotion, mood or behaviour. In a business sense, this means using carefully chosen colour combinations to create a positive image for your organisation and to help you engage at a deeper level with your customers. At KM Design, applied colour psychology forms the foundation of all our design projects. Our work is based on the principles of colour psychology, as identified by one of the world's leading authorities on applied colour psychology, Angela Wright. In 1984, having spent several years researching and exploring the dynamics of colour and Freudian psychology, Angela wrote the Colour Affects Theory, in which she proposed links between colour and human behaviour, showing how people commonly respond to colour or patterns of colour instinctively and without conscious thought. In the 1990s she developed the Colour Affects System, based on the belief that there are four colour groups and four personality types. Each colour group has its own set of characteristics which affect us both physically and psychologically, while each personality type has a natural affinity to one of the four colour groups. Partner at KM Design, Kate Marston, had the privilege of studying with Angela, achieving the Colour Affects System Diploma in Applied Colour Psychology which she passed with distinction. Kate was so impressed with Angela's work and the undeniable effect of colour on human behaviour that she brought applied colour psychology to KM Design. And this is how we use it. We apply colour strategically in all our design work to create your key message and promote a positive image for your organisation. We also offer a full colour consultancy service for those looking either to rebrand or to brand themselves for the first time. As a first step we analyse the personality of your company in order to identity your primary colour group. We then combine colours from the same group to create your own colour palette which can be applied both to your logo and branding as well as across the full range of your marketing materials. |
